This marks the 5th blog post under Hammie the Hamster category, also is the last entry. Hammie passed away yesterday night, on Valentine's Day.

Feb 14, 2012

7.30am
Woke up to prepare for Chean's Valentine's bento box but the first thing I did was to check on Hammie; that's become part of my daily routine, knocked on his cage, called his name to make sure he's still there. Hammie had been really ill lately, since I noticed a lump on his chest 2 weeks ago. Cancerous tumor the Internet said. Asked couple friends of mine and they said the same thing too. I cried, because there's not much I can do; he's old and hamsters' life spans don't often reach their full potential. I knew that and I thought I'm well-prepared for that yet it hurts still.

8.45am
Chean enjoyed his bento a lot and went to work on time. I cleaned up everything and went to check on Hammie again before heading back to catch some sleep. He's breathing, although very weak. He seemed wobbly and lethargic all the time and he had lost tremendous of weight. Eating less and playing less. It's so painful to see him go through so much pain, to be honest, we thought about sending him over to the vet for euthanasia. But he was still affectionate and wanted to do stuffs, still climbed up & down, still ran on his wheel from time to time. I don't think I have the right to take away anyone's life, even Hammie's. So we thought to observe him for about 2 weeks and see how things go.

1.25pm
Woke up from a nap, rushed to Hammie. Actually two days ago, I noticed that the lump on his chest's getting smaller and I thought one of my birthday wishes is working its magic, but soon his eyes had crusted shut and he was essentially blind; it took him much more effort to eat and drink. I called him couple times but no response. He was sleeping/hiding inside the igloo hideout, I knocked the igloo three times. He moved. Phew, Hammie's still here. Then I filled his feeding pot with more food and snacks and went to work on my stuffs.

11.00pm
Looking at his bad health condition, we kinda knew that it's going to happen soon, it should be these two days I told Chean. We're so afraid that Hammie will leave us while we are traveling, so I once said to Hammie please let me be with you if you are leaving us for good. And Hammie did. Just when I thought I had the most wonderful V-day, Hammie took a silent departure and left me with his empty cage.

#4 Chean made Hammie a tiny box. We buried him deep under the ground behind our yard, together with his favorite snacks.

Woke up for no reason, kinda miss Hammie. I know, I know, he's just a hamster, but he'd been such a cute companion. Although he bite, although he didn't like to be touched, although he only loved to be in his safe cocoon, he's still very loving to me. It's odd not to hear Hammie running around on his wheel in the midnight, though I used to complain the rumbling noise a lot. It's odd to not see him playing in his cage anymore, though I used to complain his cage smelled pretty bad during summer.

hammie_2
#5 I hope he is at peace and running around on his wheel again in Hamster Heaven...

#6 I miss you so much Hammie... Hope you had a wonderful life with us.

Bye bye, Hammie...

Murmurs

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

One year and 3 months ago, I brought Hammie home with a pretty pink cage and a plethora of small pet supplies, bedding, food, treat, toy, supplement, cage accessories... you name it, I'd probably already had it, but I left out the most important tool -- the book "Hamster for Dummies".

With limited experience & knowledge, I ended up being a real bad second-time hamster parent, not knowing & understanding his needs & wants. And the worst part is I failed to interact with him at all, AT ALL. He doesn't let me touch him, don't even mention about cuddle. Although I've tried following some simple guidelines I found online and read in books, he is still very uneasy around me and when I try to tame her, he will aggressively runs away and hides. Guess what, he bites too, S.I.G.H...

I got bitten by Hammie again yesterday, for the 73476739389th time. Deep down, I think Hammie really hates me...

Hammie_2
#1 The uncountable teeny bite marks on the cage bars.

Hammie_3
#2 Many said he might be bored or trying to get my attention or he simply needs a chew sticks...

Hammie_14
#3 But he has tons of treats & chewing toys... So why?

Hammie_5

Hammie_6
#4 He is just insecure and scared of me, I think T_____T

Hammie_4
#5 He seems more relax and less anxious when I'm not trying to touch him.

#7 See, super zen until almost fell asleep...

Ok, I better don't kacau him, anyhow, it's nearly impossible to get a still shot of Hammie cause he is constantly moving, running, chewing & hiding whenever I'm around =.=lll

Let me show you his stuffs instead...

Hammie_7
#8 The pink habitat I created, makes me so elated just by looking at it. Ya, that's the Christmas stocking I sew for him last year :D

Hammie_8
#9 One of his favorite treats of all time, take him forever to finish a bar though.

Hammie_10
#10 The only time he interacts with me is when I feed him with these... Forever thankful to Petsmart!

Hammie_11
#11 Not sure if he likes it but there's not much to buy for Hammie, really, so I buy this for the sake of buying it.

Hammie_9
#12 And this one too, too cute to not put in the shopping cart.

Hammie_15
#13 Used to decorate his cage with these colorful fluffy puffballs but slowly found the extra cleaning work a total mess. Hammie looked desperately missing his puffballs, maybe I'll put them back. Hmm...

Hammie_16
#14 Ok, it's the box that he liked! Forget about the puffballs then :p

Dear Hammie,

Many have said to me that Roborovski hamster are very hard to tame, and some Robos will never be tamed. I know it but you are just too cute when we first met, so I thought if I work hard enough, I could really bond with you. Mummy failed eventually. It's completely fine if you want to have more privacy and solely enjoy the moment being with yourself, although it kills me to see you being lonely all the time. I'm sorry, I should have bought you a friend before bringing you home, my bad. Now that you are almost 2 years old (most hamsters have an average lifespan of about 2 to 3 years) and the staff at pet store told me it's a little too late and too risky to introduce you a new friend to live with. I don't want to make you stressed out, fight or attack your new buddy nor see anyone of you ending up injured or dead. Because I love you so much. Not sure if you know that but I wish you do...

Very Random

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I still haven't found the missing Canon G11 ( *`ω´) Maybe it's in the car, maybe it's hiding underneath my day bed, maybe it's still lying on the couch, or maybe it's the fact that I haven't really put any effort into finding it. I just let it be; I'm sure it'll pop up somewhere someday ♪(´ε` )

However, as a dedicated part-time blogger, I will not allow my blog to be filled with spider nest unless with good purposes like awesome vacation, unbearable moody moments or any unforeseen issues (in my own definition, of course). For example, I would say laziness is one of the unforeseen issues because you never knew when will it hit you, see. But that's not the case here.

I really wanted to blog, so I dug out a whole lot of random pics which you have never seen before. Watch out, they are extremely random.

Ahem... Promised that I'll have surprises for you, I'm gonna reveal the first one today and save the second one for the next post, so I'll have more thing to blog :p

You know right, Chean & I have been together for more than 9 years, we have been through a lot of challenges and changes together, we have our 1st home, we have our first pet... Everything seems falling into places and life is treating us fairly well.

I think it's time to make another progress in life, you know, to bring our lives to a whole new level, with more commitments and even more responsibilities. I think I'm ready.

I... I... I actually p_ _ _ _ _ _ _ @.@ You fill in the blank for me can?

I actually P.U.R.C.H.A.S.E a hamster!

I always wanted to have one but wasn't allow to due to the instant and unpredictable changes of my hectic life. But finally, Chen got it for me yesterday! I'm overjoyed ❤❤

This is not my 1st hamster pet though, my bro presented me one when I was 15 as my birthday gift, I called it Siew Bak (小白, little snowy in Cantonese), but then my mum & sis allegedly released it from its yellow cage one day and claimed it ran off by himself. Well, apparently my mum doesn't like any pet at all, she said they have bacterias and germs and funguses that will make us ill.

I cried brokenheartedly and stupidly thought Siew Bak ran off because he doesn't like to be caged, you know, I thought they should run freely in the jungle or wherever places they belong to, instead of living in the tiny habitat. No one told me the truth until two years ago, my sis confessed to me that they (my mum & her) purposely let Siew Bak go, because one of its ear was infected and my mum didn't want Siew Bak to stay in my room and sleep with me.

S.I.G.H. Since then, I wanted to keep a hamster so bad, I knew it wasn't my fault and I even volunteered to petsit my bestie's hamster, Mimi when I was spending three months holiday in M'sia last year. So much fun and less work to do compare to puppy, I'm just so happy that I have one to keep right now, my own hamster ❤❤

And I named him Hammie, Ham Ham & H2. Yup, he's a male, a Robo Dwarf Hamster.

hammie_box
The sale person placed him in a box when we 1st got him from PetSmart.

hammie_miyaki1
Miyaki is as excited as me!

hammie_miyaki2
Chean introduced the new member to Miyaki, he didn't bark but shaked his tail unstoppably.

hammie_stuffs
All the stuffs I got for Hammie, bought him extra stuffs today though :p

hammie_1
Hammie's exploring his pinky new home.

hammie_miyaki4
Miyaki doesn't dare to go any closer, he stared from far far away.

hammie_miyaki3
He can't keep his eyes out of Hammie too! lol

Both of them are getting along pretty well, I can feel that Miyaki is getting jealous when I talk to Hammie in baby tone, haha. I placed Hammie's cage on my study table, so that he can sleep without any disturbance from Miyaki. Most of the time, Hammie just chill and feeling safe in his cage, even when I bring his cage down to the floor and let Miyaki watch him run on his wheel.

Of course lah, I can't let Hammie run freely in front of Miyaki, Miyaki may think he's a toy and try to catch him. But as long as Hammie is in his pink cage, Miyaki behaves real good, he just watch but never kacau (disturb in Malays). Good puppy~~

hammie_2
Chean brought Hammie to the 2nd level of his house.

hammie_3
It took Hammie a while to figure out the way down, lol.

hammie_wheel
He worked out a lot yesterday, haha! See his name on his cage?

hammie_6
The water bottle doesn't function real well, it drips from time to time. Guess what, Hammie cleans his house and clears out the bedding from that area :D What a good housekeeper!

hammie_7

hammie_4

hammie_5
Ham Ham... You're so C.U.T.E ❤❤

hammie_8

hammie_9

We haven't finished decorating Hammie's new house yet. Anything else you think I should get to make his house more adorable and more comfy? Tell me tell me, does Hammie melt your heart as well?

If you always wanted a pet yet you don't have much time for it, opt for a hamster, it's really a convenient pet! I'm sure you'll love it ❤❤

With a big smile,
Bev
