HUH!!??

Friday, October 16, 2009

So, Chean and I went to apply my social security card (I'm not sure what's that for, but I know I need that to get a job) this afternoon at downtown.

After waiting for about 30 mins, one of the staff called my number. I headed to the counter and handed the grandma all the documents including my working permit, passport and ID.

You know what, I was truly amazed by her take-your-own-sweet-time attitude and her I-do-not-believe-you expression...

Ah Ma
Me

How long have you been staying in U.S.?
I think approximately a year and half. But I've been going back and forth to my country for several times.

(She patiently flipped through my passport, very very patient.)

Were you with your parent the first time when you are here?
Nope (sharp and crisp, I'm old enough to travel alone)

Then, she glimpsed on me for few seconds. And I gave her a BIG-question-mark look, HUH!!??

How old are you?
I'm 25. (again, very sharp and crisp. I'm starving, do you mind?)

She glimpsed again. This time she raised her eyebrow, carefully looked at my ID and said,

Ok, sign right here and you are all set. Oohhh, those are pretty nails!!!
Thanks. You have a nice day. (Chean and I ran through the door for brunch after that)

See, this is another great advantages to live in U.S.! They never guess Asian gal's age right. Wakaka...

Wanna look younger? Forget about botox and plastic surgery, move to U.S. instead ;)

P/S: I wasn't in that outfit while I was dealing with the old lady though. The pictures above are only for sake of younger-look effect :p Have a great weekend!

Social Security card is a id that proves you're legal stay in US. It is just like an identification for you.
Oh, after you get the SS card.
You can apply US citizenship after 3-5 years (:

Hi Miney~~

I guess SS is more than a card.. It's more like a government plan for working adults' retirement planning ;) Bur I really don't know about that in depth.

Lol.
SS is it a card XD
You have to remember the number on it ?
It just like Malaysia ID.

Well,
elder people have more benefits on that though.
Lol.

Ooh...even though not an American citizen also can apply for social security?

I wish I could move to the US too...then I won't get looks from people thinking like I'm 30 or something. Maybe in the US I might actually look my age...hahaha! =P
