I ❤ Hawaii - Part III (Pearl Harbor)

Monday, March 29, 2010

I was super excited about Pearl Harbor at first and forced myself (and Chean of course) to got up as early as 6 a.m. to avoid crazy crowds.

PH_chean+me
Chean & I, standing right in front of the giant anchor.

PH_me1
Tada~~ The US$69.90 maxi dress I bought from Island Sweetie. C.U.T.E. right? ❤❤ (USS Bowfin Submarine as background)

PH_chean
The sun was brutal.

We were there around 8a.m., although the ticket for USS Arizona Memorial is free, we have to wait up to 3 hours!!! In order to kill time, we have to just do something.

As any other typical tourist, we bought tickets with a package of two others historical spots: 1) Bowfin Submarine and, 2) Missouri Battleship while waiting. This is why the USS Arizona Memorial is F.O.C.

PH_bowfin_me1
I'm ready, captain.

Bowfin, the "Pearl Harbor Avenger" is famous for its successful attacks on the Japanese.

PH_bowfin_me2
Went below the deck to unveil submarine's life. (Headset for audio tour)

PH_bowfin_chean1
I think what's behind Chean is the bullets compartment. Correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't pay attention to the audio tour at all.

PH_bowfin_me3
That's the door! Super tiny!!!

PH_bowfin_me4
Successfully passed through ^_____^

PH_bowfin_aisle
The aisle is damn "sempit" (narrow). Submarine's life isn't exhilarating at all.

PH_bowfin_room
Mini bunk beds and mini sink.

PH_bowfin_dinning
Mini dinning area too!

PH_bowfin_chean2
Let me guess, this must be either the meters room or the control room :p

PH_bowfin_me5
Concentrating...

PH_bowfin_me6
Bah...

The audio tape took forever to finish for each section and I can't stop aside to listen to it. Space are damn limited and the air is damn stuffy, everyone expects everyone to move forward in a moderate pace to avoid congestion @.@

PH_bofin_kitchen
The kitchen. Cute mixer (left) and weighing scale (right). Cupcakes under the sea, anyone?

PH_bowfin_me7
More beds...

PH_bowfin_meters
More meters...

PH_bowfin_heat
Ohh... Maybe this is the control room or engine room @.@ But I'm sure this is where the sea-water distiller located. ;)

This is how 80-man crew lived during wartime. Salute them!

So, Chean and I were pretty much done with Bowfin but still an hour long to go.

A.R.G.H.

Then we thought maybe we should go check out the Missouri Battleship real quick, so we started to search for the direction on the map. Damn it, Missouri Battleship is 15 mins drive away unfortunately!!! Plus the tour will take about an hour.

That means we can't go anywhere expect being like a homeless people loitering around. Why T_____T

Under this helpless situation, we got some yucky foods, toured around for the second times and got some souvenirs at shop. But still half an hour to eleven!!!

PH_ticket
Tickets to USS Arizona Memorial.

Finally we got on the ferry and arrived at the USS Arizona Memorial~~

PH_map
Checking out the detailed map of Arizona Battleship.

Why people often say no trip to Honolulu would be complete without visit to USS Arizona Memorial?

Because this memorial is the final resting place for many of the USS Arizona Battleship's 1177 crew members who lost their lives when their ship was sunk in 9 minutes without firing a shot after being bombed by the Japanese on December 7, 1941.

Until today, the ship still leaks 2-9 quarts of oil each day. The dark oil, sometimes referred to as "the tears of the Arizona" or "black tears, oozing like dripping blood from the ship underneath.

PH_Arizona
Can you see the "tears"?

PH_Arizona2
My photos suck, I know. But the tone of the water's surface tells right?

PH_heros
R.I.P.

PH_random
A beautiful random shot by Chean.

That's it! The 3 hours long wait compensated with a 20 mins meaningful tour. Now I can say out loud: I've been to Honolulu, bleh ❤❤

PH_atlas
Another random shot to show you Malaysia is super I.N.F.A.M.O.U.S. loh T______T

Time for Missouri Battleship! Shuttle bus service is included, thank god.

PH_bus_me2
Camwhoring on the bus.

PH_bus_chean+me
With Chean ❤❤

Seriously, I can't wait to finish the Missouri Battleship tour. My feet were super sore (was wearing flat sandals though) and I can no longer stand for the heat!!!

PH_missouri_chean
Pardon the plastic bag please, souvenirs inside. We are not allow to bring any purse or bag at Pearl Harbor. @.@

PH_missouri1
The most G.I.G.A.N.T.I.C. battleship that I've ever seen.

PH_missouri2
Missouri was the last battleship the navy built.

PH_missouri_me2
Walking on the deck.

PH_missouri_me1
Ready? F.I.R.E.

PH_missouri_arizona
Observation deck at the USS Arizona Memorial. View from Missouri Battleship.

PH_missouri_me4
Climbing up and going down... Super tiring!

PH_missouri_me3
Waiting for my turn to get in the ship.

PH_missouri_dinning
Wah! 5-stars dinning hall during wartime. This is a lot better than the Bowfin, poor submarines.

Ok lah, I cannot "tahan" (stand for it) already, nearly fainted and dehydrated!!! "Darling, I want to go! Just go," I said grumpily.

Then he drove me Chinatown and got me a coconut!!!

PH_chinatown_coconut
A.H.H... My fave juice ever! So refreshing ❤❤

It's worth spending a day visiting these unforgettable historical spots and seeing World War II history showcasing right in front of me. Meaningful enough to love it ^_____^

Remember, make blog not war! P.E.A.C.E.

Hi ET女子 & Agnes,
Thanks! So nice of you two :D

Hi May,
Just patiently and thoroughly apply the hair color on your hair, that's it. No magic required except getting a reliable brand ^^

Ohh, a tip to share, I leave the hair color for about 2 and a half hours before I washed it off. That'll make the color more vibrant and lasting; make sure you run a sensitivity test before doing so. Good luck, do let me know how it turns out!

Hi Pinkster,
A.R.G.H. How could I left you out!

Yup, I always D.I.Y. my hair color, it's super easy.

I think dark brown works for any skin tone, get the Revlon ColorSilk if you feel insecure about the new color cause Revlon hair color won't last that long (around 1-3 months) especially if you wash your hair everyday ;) That's what I usually do when trying on new & extreme color like light auburn.

It's fun to get a new look once in a while! Get in the loop ^^
